Denver & Rio Grande Railroad Lariat Siding

March
1884

The beginning of a town included three essential ingredients:  land, water, and the railroad.

Pictured above are:
The Fassett General Store/U.S. Post Office, built in 1881 by Lillian L. Taylor Fassett (right)
The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad section house (left)
Water tower and windmill (center).

This site became the town of Henry in 1884, to be replatted and renamed Monte Vista in 1886.
